NCB Seizes 848 kg of Ganja on Chennai Outskirts

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has made significant strides in combating drug trafficking. Recently, they dismantled a large ganja trafficking operation on the outskirts of Chennai. This successful operation has led to the seizure of 848 kilograms of ganja valued at Rs 4.25 crore.

Discovery of a Huge Consignment

The seized drugs were found near a toll plaza in Chennai, following intelligence reports about a smuggling operation. The ganja was trafficked through the Andhra-Odisha border. NCB officials acted on a tip-off and intercepted the consignment earlier this week.

The ganja was cleverly hidden among bags filled with red chilies. Authorities discovered a total of 396 packets of ganja tucked away inside containers. The tactics used to conceal the drugs indicate the lengths traffickers will go to evade detection.

Arrests Made

During the operation, NCB officials arrested three suspects connected to the trafficking ring. Their names are Siva, Parthasarathy, and Dinesh.

Siva is identified as the key figure, or kingpin, of the operation. He has a lengthy criminal record, with several narcotics and murder cases pending against him. Despite the initial escape of Siva and Dinesh when NCB intercepted their container lorry, police later apprehended them.

Source of the Drugs

The drugs were reportedly sourced from near the Kaza toll plaza, located close to Vijaywada in Andhra Pradesh. This area has been a known hotspot for the cultivation and trafficking of ganja. The NCB is working to uncover the network of suppliers and traffickers involved in this operation.

Investigation into Distribution Plans

The NCB is currently investigating whether the seized ganja was meant for distribution within Tamil Nadu or if it was being smuggled into Sri Lanka. The agency is exploring all angles to determine the scope of the trafficking ring.

Officials are examining the route the drugs took and any possible connections to other smuggling operations. This investigation is critical for dismantling similar networks and preventing future drug trafficking activities.

Ongoing Efforts Against Drug Trafficking

The recent bust is part of the NCB’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region. The agency has ramped up its operations in response to the rising concerns around narcotic substance abuse. Drug trafficking not only poses health risks but also fuels crime and violence in communities.

The NCB has been collaborating with local law enforcement and other agencies to strengthen their response to drug-related crimes. This partnership is crucial in sharing intelligence and resources, enabling a more effective crackdown on traffickers.

Future Developments

As the investigation unfolds, the NCB is expected to release more details. They aim to provide updates on their findings and any additional arrests that may occur. The agency is committed to keeping the public informed about the progress of their efforts.
