Government bus safety has come under serious question after a disturbing incident involving a 12-year-old schoolgirl in Chennai. Government bus conductor harassment allegations surfaced after the minor reportedly faced inappropriate behaviour while travelling to school in a government mini bus, triggering public anger and protests.
Government bus authorities are under pressure after the girl’s family alleged that the conductor made obscene gestures and sexually harassed the child during her morning commute. Shocked by the incident, the parents immediately approached the Valasaravakkam all-women police station and filed a formal complaint. Police confirmed that an FIR was registered based on the child’s statement.
Government bus conductor arrest delay further escalated tensions, as the accused was not taken into custody even a day after the case was filed. This led the family, along with members of women’s and student associations, to stage a protest outside the police station demanding swift action and justice for the child.
Government bus incidents involving minors have raised fresh concerns about child safety in public transport. Protesters were later assured by officials that appropriate action would be taken, after which the demonstration was called off. The case has renewed calls for stricter monitoring and accountability to ensure children’s safety on public buses.
