A horrifying incident unfolded in Chennai as poor maintenance on a roller coaster left 30 people, including eight children, suspended nearly 50 feet in the air for close to three hours. The terrifying ordeal occurred at an amusement park on East Coast Road around 6 PM, when the “Topgun” ride abruptly malfunctioned mid-cycle after a loud mechanical snap.
The roller coaster, known for its vertical climb and steep drop, froze in place, trapping riders and exposing critical lapses in safety and upkeep. Park staff attempted to use an on-site crane, but it failed to reach the height required for rescue. Eventually, a sky-lift vehicle from Guindy had to be brought in, and rescue operations began at 8:30 PM.
Officials handed out water and biscuits to the distressed victims during the ordeal. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported. However, poor maintenance on the roller coaster has now come under sharp scrutiny.
Authorities have launched an investigation, and preliminary reports blame ignored mechanical issues and lack of proper upkeep. The absence of trained emergency staff further fueled outrage on social media. The incident raises serious concerns about safety standards in amusement parks.
