Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin today launched the much-awaited flagship scheme, ‘Ungaludan Stalin’ (Stalin With You), from Cuddalore. The ambitious programme promises doorstep delivery of over 40 essential government services, aiming to reduce the public’s dependence on visiting distant government offices.
This is the fourth phase of the outreach initiative, with previous phases being refined based on citizen feedback. Additional Chief Secretary P. Amudha clarified, “This is not just a pre-election gimmick. We’ve already conducted three successful phases, and we’ve improved the model after learning from earlier experiences.”
The scheme will organize around 10,000 camps across Tamil Nadu, offering 46 services in rural areas and 43 in urban regions. Services include patta transfers, ration card issuance, name changes in EB connections, enrolment under health insurance schemes, and SME loans. Importantly, women who missed applying for the ₹1,000 monthly assistance can also do so through these camps.
Ms. Amudha highlighted the convenience of the initiative, saying, “Families will no longer have to travel to taluk or district offices. Door-to-door campaigns are informing them about camp dates to ensure maximum participation.”
While most services have also moved online, the camps address the needs of those without digital access or literacy. Feedback and tracking mechanisms have reportedly ensured 95% delivery of promised services, she added.
Opposition leaders, including AIADMK chief Edappadi K. Palaniswamy, have dismissed the scheme as a “failed model,” questioning its effectiveness over the past few years. Nevertheless, the government sees it as a governance innovation and a way to connect directly with citizens ahead of elections.
By combining physical access with technology and outreach, Tamil Nadu’s ‘Stalin With You’ initiative showcases an attempt to bring governance closer to the people while addressing long-standing bureaucratic hurdles.
